The Fourth of July is almost here! A day to celebrate our independence and freedom, it’s a special day for millions of Americans and a great opportunity to enjoy time with family, hosts barbecues and participate in community events.
For many, it’s also often a hot and sunny day when extra cooling is needed to stay comfortable and to enjoy all the festivities. However, there are ways that you can stay cool this July 4th without overworking your Air Conditioning unit. With that goal in mind, here are a few HVAC tips that you’ll want to keep in mind this Fourth of July.
Staying Hydrated Can Help your HVAC Unit
While you know it’s important to your health to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated, did you also know that it can help take pressure off of your HVAC unit?
Drinking plenty of cold water and staying properly hydrated even on the hottest days of summer helps to maintain and even lower your body temperature. As a result, if you are well hydrated, you can stay comfortable in warmer temperatures without having to constantly turn to your thermostat.
By taking the simple and healthy step of staying hydrated this summer, you can help to avoid unnecessarily turning down the thermostat and overworking your HVAC unit. This is one painfully simple HVAC tip that we should all incorporate immediately!
Remembering that Replacing Air Filters is Important
If you’ve hosted a barbecue before, you know how easy it is for smoke from the grill to pour into your house, especially with guests constantly going in and out.
This can put a significant strain on your air filters, especially if they have not been recently replaced. All home air filters should be replaced every 90 days, but if you have pets or family members with allergies, you should replace filters every 45-60 days.
Summer entertaining and barbecues can put added strain on your filters, so take some time to make sure that they are properly maintained before you host your next party.
Avoid HVAC Emergencies Through Preventative Maintenance
The last thing you want to happen this Fourth of July is to have your air conditioning go out with a house full of family and friends.
While it’d certainly be a memorable party, it probably wouldn’t be your most relaxing or comfortable one. You can avoid many HVAC emergencies simply by doing regular preventative maintenance.
At a minimum, you should have your HVAC system cleaned, serviced and inspected at least once a year. Additionally, you should have your air ducts cleaned at least every three to five years. If you have not recently scheduled any preventative maintenance, go ahead and scheduled it before hosting a big event to help prevent any HVAC emergencies.
